Wilfried Zaha Back To Crystal Palace?!
Late last night, news broke that Crystal Palace are exploring the possibility of a season-long loan move to bring Wilfried Zaha back to SE25, just a year on from his decision to swap South London for Istanbul with Galatasaray.
Predictably, the story split opinion amongst Palace fans and without wanting to sound too much like a fence-sitter, I honestly do feel rather torn over the whole thing myself.
Long-time followers of me on social media will be aware of the deep affection I have for Wilf, it goes way beyond the appreciation you would have for any old player at the club you support for me but that doesn't mean I am without questions as to how exactly a return would work, given the shift in manager, playing style and expectation since Zaha was last a part of the Palace first-team squad.
I'd love to hear your thoughts on the story in the comments section below; whether you're a Palace fan or simply an interested neutral. It's definitely not a situation which will provide universal agreement.
Cheers,
Dan

How Likely Is Marc Guehi To Sign For Newcastle?
Переглядів 6 тис.5 місяців тому
Over the weekend just gone, I had numerous Newcastle fans asking me for my take on the reports linking Marc Guehi with a move to Newcastle before the end of the summer transfer window and after replying to a few in text form, I thought it was probably best to record a video on here to offer as much clarity as possible on the situation from Palace's side of things. Hopefully the explanation give...
Social Media Has Become So Toxic, I Want This Channel To Be Different

As the title of this video no doubt tells you, I've grown incredibly tired of life on Twitter (now known as X) and wanted to record a video explaining my plans for this channel heading into the new season. I'm fully aware that uploads here have been sporadic to say the least but I wanted to explain why that has been the case and give an insight into why I'll be making sure I change that as the ...
Why Oliver Glasner's Success At Palace Is Much More Than "New Manager Bounce"
Переглядів 10 тис.8 місяців тому
The last six Premier League fixtures for Crystal Palace have brought five wins and one draw with 16 goals scored and just four conceded but with plenty of neutrals having seen the Eagles' late season form and attributed it simply to "new manager bounce" given the presence of Oliver Glasner in the Selhurst Park dugout, the truth actually hints at a far more solid foundation for success having be...
Why Sean Dyche Deserves More Credit Than He's Ever Been Given

Sean Dyche's entire managerial career has been one long stereotype in the eyes of many but having guided Everton to mathematical Premier League safety with three games to spare despite point deductions, I firmly believe he should be given far more credit than the footballing masses have ever been willing to offer him. Today's video is my attempt to shine the spotlight in Dyche's direction, offe...
Sheffield Wednesday - A Club Surrounded By Chaos

I've been weighing up recording this video on Sheffield Wednesday for a couple of weeks, with the statement released by Owls owner Dejphon Chansiri imploring supporters to give over their own money to fund a £2m bill the club owed a couple of weeks back acting as the blue-touch paper for my explosion of interest. Chansiri has been in control at Hillsborough since January of 2015 and when I say ...
Explaining Middlesbrough's Boom & Bust Form Under Michael Carrick

It's pretty much a year to the day since Michael Carrick stepped into the managerial hot-seat at Middlesbrough as Chris Wilder's replacement; to say that his 12 months in charge has been a roller-coaster would be a genuine understatement. Having inherited a team sat in 21st place in the Championship, a formation change and a string of stellar performances from players who are now no longer at C...

Should Everton Fans Be Worried About 777 Partners Buying The Club?

The last week or two has seen Farad Moshiri strike a deal with 777 Partners for 94% of Everton FC, subject to ratification by relevant bodies such as the Premier League, FA and the Financial Conduct Authority but who exactly are 777 and should Everton's fans be worried about their short and long-term future under the umbrella of the group founded in 2015? The takeover, should it be given the gr...
Why Blackburn's Young Squad Is One Of The Most Exciting In England
Переглядів 3,7 тис.Рік тому
Blackburn Rovers caught the eye of many a neutral when beating Harrogate Town 8-0 away from home in the League Cup a couple of weeks ago; the result itself was impressive enough but when you consider that they managed to do it with a side that had an average age of just 22 with 12 of the 16 players used having come through the Rovers academy, it felt like a "project" that needed a spotlight bei...
Why Sunderland Are One Of England's Most Exciting Teams This Season

Any 5-0 win is likely to raise eyebrows across the game in the days that follow it but the aftermath of Sunderland's five goal triumph over Southampton last weekend had an extra level of intrigue around it, given the age profile of the side Tony Mowbray selected and the overall direction that the club's recruitment has take over the last 12-18 months. With an average age of just 22.3 on Saturda...

Unai Emery's Aston Villa Look Like The Real Deal

Mike Dean's Quotes Prove VAR Needs A Full Overhaul

As soon as I logged onto Twitter (X) this morning, I was met with hundreds of tweets regarding an interview Mike Dean had given to Simon Jordan on his podcast Up Front. Welcome to the youtube channel Dan. So lovely to hear your story. Hope you get as many, if not more, followers on youtube as you have on twitter. Have subscribed, & will follow you on twitter. Thanks for that it maker's sense what you are saying .I have not listen to a lot of podcasts from Palace supporters and it was very interesting what you said but like you say if the managers happy we're happy cuz I think he's a really good manager got his head screwed on the right way anyway I look forward to your next video. Come on the Palace 🏴👍
Great content and I agree. If I was on the Newcastle board I'd be walking away now and looking elsewhere. I'd rather buy from someone in Europe than financially strengthen a prem rival.
The only opinion that counts is Oliver Glasner's. If he's happy with Wilf then that's all you need to know.
For an extremely articulate palace man that was a total “ I don’t want to upset anyone video”you know very well that no one will join our squad without oli’s full approval -delete that vid and tell us your view -I’d like to know-to me wilfs a one off he’s the exception to the rules a palace man thru and thru and if he started for us at Selhurst again you know the roof would come off and I would cheer my head off -and if that is wrong I don’t ever want to be right -and don’t apologise for doin a vid about palace-u are careful to do v few and the ones that you do are your best work because your heart is in it
My heart says yes, my head says no. I think if he signed for us, he'd spend most of his time on the physio's table whilst receiving a massive pay packet. I seem to remember he was injured quite a lot in his last season for us.
As someone said on Twitter, it seems mad that we let him go on a free only to turn around and pay to bring him back. Personally I don’t know how I feel, bitter maybe?
I hope you are happy at home back again he very Disappointing Galatasaray game performance
If Glasner thinks it's a positive move then like you, happy days!! My one big doubt is can Wilf handle the fact, that he's not and won't be the main man anymore as we now have a team/squad of talented main men. If his head's right and he feeds off the love the club has for him, he could have the best time of his life and playing career contributing, while achieving what he always wanted, to play for a Crystal Palace team in Europe and maybe more? 😀🙏❤💙
Convinced his ashes will be spread around Selhurst 😂
Great cover of this story Dan, i agree with you wholeheartedly. As a Palace fan, I can't help but think that we should leave a good thing in the past. Only if this deal makes financial sense and his return reignites his passion for goalscoring to propel us in the upcoming campaign. Should we sign him. Like you said, it is very much head vs heart. We will see what happens!
If he comes back and no one else leaves then he should play as a sub and the youth should be given preference to develop on the big stage. If we loose the likes of Eze then it is a more palatable deal.
The lift he would give us would Be massive
I am the same don't know how to feel about the move
Chapters closed for me, won't come and accept not starting. His legacy is strong and id love to leave it that way
Aren’t we buy young & cheap, sell at a profit? Love Wilf, but I can’t see it working. He was starting to get niggling injuries, is paid far too much & is the wrong side of 30. For me, love him, but no.
We dodged a bullet not having Wilf on that contract. Don’t think it’s a good idea having him back is my opinion on the matter……. However I get fans wanting to see him back.
Not for me! But if OG wants him yeah. It's probably just paper talk!
Although opinion is undeniably heavily split, this definitely seems to be the most frequent answer.
Off the bench only. But would love to see him on the pitch for us. ❤️💙🦅
You’re not wrong, Vibes FC.
I go with your sentiment that Wilf, Steve and Oliver have to want it. If Oliver doesn’t then it’s over. Good money or not. He’s building his team with a full preseason and the players he wants. I also don’t think we need him. Leave history intact. Look at the players we have in the middle of the park now too. It’s bursting with talent. Save his potential wages to spend on a permanent signing.
Everything you’ve said there is totally logical BUT, with Zaha and Palace, logic takes a back seat and I can’t be angry at that.
@@gottabigmouth1079 agree 100%.look forward not back
Totally agree it's Glasner's call, and maybe we as a club should be focusing on youth, and maybe its a lot of money....jeez it'd be fun to watch though.
The eternal push and pull. No one outside the Palace bubble understands our tie with Zaha but that’s part of the beauty.
For it to work he'll have to be willing to come off the bench, and knowing Wilf idk how he'll feel about that after being our talisman for so many years, you can't as a Palace fan not be excited for his return though.
That is it, Luke. If he’s open to a less pivotal role and Glasner is on board, I’m in. If those two things aren’t the case, I’m not.
It doesn’t make sense from a footballing or emotional standpoint. Wilf has had his time and will be forever remembered as a Palace legend. But as a club we need to look forward. In the current side I just don’t see how a 31 year old Wilf whose goal/assist outputs are significantly less fits in. We have finally evolved as a more well rounded team who are no longer reliant on his goals. I’m slightly confused about your comments about the move souring our feelings towards him. For me, yes it did hurt, but at the same time after countless years of service and carrying the team on his shoulders for most of it, he owes us absolutely nothing. He’s given everything and more for this club. He has already shown loyalty and commitment beyond anyone’s hopes or expectations. We kept him against his will at times and at no point did he sulk or did his commitment waver. He sacrificed years of his career he will likely never get back where he could’ve gone on to achieve bigger/better things. We robbed him of that opportunity that he deserved. If anything, we owed him the courtesy of letting him go. He wanted to leave to experience his dream of CL football. Are you seriously suggesting he should’ve abandoned that dream just to pocket a wage of £200,000 a week or whatever it was? Cmon now mate
I don’t begrudge him the freedom to make his own mind up at all; I just remember the reaction online showing a wide spectrum of emotions and wondered if people would be quick to bury the hatchet.
@@HLTCOMEDIA reactions online are rarely a reflection of reality. If he did return what do you think would happen? Booing? You said it slightly soured things which implied his departure left a bitter taste for you personally. I just find that strange after what I just explained.
That is very much the truth, albeit an ironic one given the fact that we are currently conversing in an online setting. 😂
@@HLTCOMEDIA lol
I don't know for sure, but i was in Turkey in June and being a Palace fan i asked a Gallasatry fan about Zaha. I was informed he was mainly a substiute in league games and often remonstrated with the manager when playing. Of course,I can't verify this, but i was talking to a fan and accept his opiniin
It doesn’t sound a million miles away from likely, let’s be honest.
Hey Dan, for a little bit of fun, can you do a Premier League Prediction?😊
I can certainly give it some thought, I’ve never done one before.
We need to move on.
I don’t blame anyone for feeling this way, even though I can see both sides. It’s just such an emotive issue.
Look what he's done with Jeff! Kid in sweet shop comes to mind,The only thing is can be team player will every ball have to go through him? Would he last a full season fit? I fill like a Traitor just saying this, I Love you wilf 😅
If he can adapt to not being the main man, it would be a very interesting shift. Can he though?
Agree if Glasners keen got to be worth the risk. Have you thought about doing a video predicting where each team will finish in the prem? Would be interested to hear your views
I could do one mate, albeit, I’m acutely aware that it’ll be used to rinse me in 9 months time. 😂
Yes, without a doubt, imagine him coming off the bench🦅❤️💙
Don’t get under my skin, Clive. 😂
I think he might regret leaving but we crossed that bridge now. Also he might not be the player we need and at that price 7m a year is a bit much at his age
I think, without the previous association, the move wouldn’t ever happen but that water under the bridge is exactly why I feel it might. 😂
I think a loan deal makes sense, you have a year with him around the new young kids coming through giving them a chance to learn from a player of his calibre makes sense
As long as he’s not happy to be the main man this time.
I can see it happening. Parish brought back AJ 10 years ago so its something he is not against doing.
Could well do. I’d imagine Steve is keen.
love Wilf, buts it's a no from me
It’s remarkable really, we all know it’s a story that would split opinion but the comments are proving it.
If this doesn't go through because the club turns it down, I think in 5 years time Palace fans will look back and wish we'd got to see Wilf play for us again. I think at the moment the disappointment of him moving to Galatasaray is so recent that it's overshadowing all his previous accomplishments, but in a few years I don't think that will be the case.
Don’t get me wrong, heart wise, I’m still very much in the camp of getting him back but head says that Glasner himself won’t fancy it.
You’re almost certainly right mate.
He won a title let's not forget! Got Champions League, scored and won at Old Trafford! Must've felt good, way they treated him. Bring him home I say! And imagine him under Glasner(not Roy,with respect)....
When you spin it like that, it’s actually been a very successful 12 month move.
I like it as a bridge to get the youth in that isn’t necessarily ready right now. If Glasner is in, I’m in.
I think the vast majority of us will go with whatever Glasner wants at this stage.
Bit like the ex wife...Still love her, but had to move on....
Yeah, I get that analogy for sure.
Sometimes though, people remarry... JAT
Agree with you - ultimately it comes down to what Glasner wants, if he wants him back then we'd all welcome wilf with open arms, if he doesn't then I totally understand the decision. I think a return for zaha is always going to happen anyway, if not as a player then as a coaching staff /ambassador or whatever. Maybe we'll hear him co-commentating alongside Brighty in a few years
Haha! It feels inevitable now. Wilf and Brighty discussing the U18 side in 2041.
For me after everything he’s done for this club I’ll never not take him back. As player, coach, even manager! There’s always a place for him - huge wages yes, but I think a loan could work well and simply the mentality he can bring to the club as well it will be worth it
Even if Glasner isn’t keen?
@@HLTCOMEDIA to be honest I’ve not heard if he is or isn’t yet! Just personally I would take him back, Glasner’s the gaffer though and with his project in mind if he doesn’t think he fits in then it’s probably the right choice.
Yeah, I’m just playing Devil’s Advocate; for me, Glasner is all important.
@@HLTCOMEDIA agree with you there! My love for wilf has definitely blurred my vision with this one, imagining one last dance with him helping us lift an FA cup…
As an FPL player, i'm ready to get hurt again by Zaha
Haha! The habit you just can’t kick.
For me it has nothing to do with the wages, even if it is a loan. I would prefer us to move on and give the minutes to someone coming through. Not a chance he will be satisfied sitting on the bench.
It’s strange isn’t it? All of us knowing him so well can see the obvious issues from the off. 😂
@@HLTCOMEDIA If Zaha were to come out and say this is his final season before retirement I wouldn't be 100% against the loan, it would very much be a vibes signing however.
Heart says yes head says no... Wilf is 32 soon and I'm not sure he fits the current system under Glasner. But if Glasner wants him then who knows. 1yr loan at the very most.. bug I'd much rather spend money on a talented youngster like Asprilla from Watford.
I think that view will be shared by 95%+ of the fan-base to be honest, Michael.
